5 Myths That Might Surprise You
Nutrition is full of "rules" that get repeated so often, nobody stops to check if they're actually true. Some of them sound sensible… a few even sound scientific. Most of them just aren't accurate and they end up making food more complicated than it needs to be.
Here are five of the most common ones we hear at SYNQ, and what's actually going on underneath them.
1. "Don't eat carbs if you want to lose weight"
Cutting carbs isn't required for weight loss and carbs are also your body's main fuel source. What actually matters more is how much you're eating, how often, and what else is on your plate. Carbs aren't the enemy here. It’s important to take a look at the whole picture.
2. "You need a detox after a bad week"
Your body already does this every day, without a juice cleanse or a reset plan. Your liver and kidneys are detoxing constantly. After a heavier week, you don't need anything dramatic. You just need to go back to eating normally.
3. "You need to eat clean 100% of the time"
Consistency beats perfection. What you eat most of the time matters far more. Chasing 100% often backfires because it’s just too rigid and hard to sustain.
4. "Skipping meals helps you lose weight"
In practice, it usually does the opposite. Skip a meal and you're more likely to over eat later, and you'll likely have less energy for training in the meantime. Eating regularly tends to serve people much better than skipping ever does.
5. "Weight loss is linear"
The scale moves for reasons that have nothing to do with fat loss (water retention, hormones, how much food is currently in your system etc). Day to day, the number will bounce around no matter what you're doing right. What actually matters is the trend over weeks, not any single reading.
None of these myths are your fault..they get repeated so often they start to sound like fact. The real theme running through all five is the same one: nutrition is usually simpler than it's made out to be.
