The Missing Link
Have you ever wondered why you start/stop your fitness journey? And no, it’s not because you simply don’t have the willpower to be consistent.
Whilst discipline is important, it’s not the full story and there's arguably a more important component as to why you always feel like you’re restarting.
So here's the bit nobody talks about..
Most people can set a goal, lose the weight, hit the PB and look a certain way by a certain date. And goals are great, they give you direction.
But a goal is not who you are. It's a destination. And when life gets in the way (work, kids, a bad week, an injury etc), the goal doesn't hold you up. So you stop. Not because you failed..but because the thing you were chasing was never attached to who you are in the first place and not something that you truly valued.
This is the missing link.
Not motivation. Not discipline. Not even mindset really (that's still one level too shallow).
It's identity.
There's a difference between someone trying to lose weight, and someone who trains.
Someone trying to hit a deadlift PB, and someone who lifts.
The first person needs the result to keep going. Missed a week and the whole thing feels pointless.
The second person doesn't need the result to keep going. Missing a session isn't a crisis. Because training isn't the means to an end anymore. It's just what they do.
As a result, one of those survives a bad week and the other one doesn't.
